This pattern of cap came into issue with the US Army during the Second World War in 1944 and and saw widespread issue, replaced the short bill cap in 1944.

The Daisy Mae was introduced in 1941 alongside the two piece HBT fatigues and replaced the earlier denim version. The caps which came out after this proved more popular leading to the it being declared limited standard in 1943 and gradually phased out.
