Waffen-SS M43 Field Cap – Private Purchase

A very interesting and rarely encountered Waffen-SS M43 field cap, manufactured from distinctive field-grey ribbed Trikot fabric, a high-quality material particularly associated with privately tailored SS officer uniforms and headgear.
The cap features the characteristic M43 construction with a shaped visor, fold-down side flaps and two metal front buttons. The high quality trikot fabric and tailoring are especially noteworthy and give this example the appearance of a privately purchased field cap rather than a standard issue piece.
Unfortunately, the original insignia have been removed, but you can still see where they were once applied.
The cap is in worn condition, showing extensive signs of use, including several small moth holes, areas of fabric wear, age-related discoloration and wear to the interior lining. Despite its clearly used condition, the cap has retained its characteristic shape and both front buttons.
Approximate size 54–55.
An interesting and difficult-to-find M43 field cap with distinctive ribbed Trikot fabric of the type associated with SS officer uniforms, very appealing to collectors who like genuinely worn headgear with plenty of character.
A scarce example showing extensive period wear and an attractive, untouched appearance, a great cap to restore!
