Fallschirmjäger jump container (Abwurfbehälter) Shock Absorber – Post-War Household Conversion

An interesting and unusual surviving component from a German Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger drop container.
This ribbed metal section originally served as the Stoßdämpfer (impact/shock absorber) fitted to a Fallschirm-Abwurfbehälter. These containers were dropped by parachute and were used to supply German airborne troops with weapons, ammunition and other equipment which could not be carried by the paratrooper during the jump.
The heavily ribbed construction of the Stoßdämpfer was designed to absorb part of the impact when the container reached the ground.
What makes this example particularly interesting is its post-war civilian conversion. After the war, when useful military materials were frequently repurposed due to shortages, this former military component was given a second life as a practical household item.
Two carrying handles were added to the sides and the piece was finished in brown, converting it into a household basin, bucket or wash tub. The characteristic deeply ribbed construction of the original Abwurfbehälter shock absorber nevertheless remains immediately recognizable.
The conversion itself forms an interesting part of the object's history, illustrating the practical reuse of former military equipment in Germany during the immediate post-war years.
A very unusual Fallschirmjäger relic, combining its original wartime function with a clearly visible post-war civilian second life.
