Wehrmacht Gas Warning Flags – Gaswarnfähnchen – Set of Six

€ 175,00
Very attractive and increasingly difficult to find set of six Wehrmacht gas warning flags (Gaswarnfähnchen), used for marking areas contaminated or suspected of being contaminated by chemical warfare agents.
Unlike many surviving Gaswarnfähnchen encountered today in virtually mint or unissued condition, these examples show convincing period field-use characteristics. The yellow fabric displays staining, fading, discoloration and general wear, while the metal stakes retain an attractive naturally aged patina. Wear is also visible around several of the original attachment points.
These signs of genuine use are particularly appealing on equipment of this type and give the set a completely different appearance from unused examples that remained in storage.
A very characteristic piece of Wehrmacht gas-protection and warning equipment, and particularly desirable as a group of six matching period-used examples rather than as a single loose flag.
