Rare Heer / Luftwaffe Forestry Service Forstamtmann / Forstmeister Collar Tabs – Black Velvet

A very attractive matching pair of Forestry Service collar tabs for a senior official, intended for wear within the Heer or Luftwaffe Forestry Service.

The tabs are constructed from fine black velvet and feature elaborate hand-embroidered silver/aluminium bullion oak-leaf decoration. The embroidery consists of oak-leaf branches positioned around all four corners together with a single oak leaf to the centre. Each tab is finished with a finely twisted silver/aluminium cord border.

The black backing colour was associated with the Forestry Services of both the Heer and Luftwaffe, distinguishing these from the differently coloured tabs used by other branches of the German Forestry Service.

The reverse sides show the typical period construction with the black velvet material folded around a stiff light-coloured inner backing. Remnants of the original attachment threads are still present, indicating that the tabs were once removed from a uniform.

A particularly attractive pair displaying high-quality hand embroidery and excellent craftsmanship, with only normal traces of age and wear.
