Period German Spielmannszug Querpfeife – Type Used by the HJ/DJ
Category:
€ 175,00
A very attractive period German Spielmannszug Querpfeife (marching fife), of the type used by German youth and marching formations including the Hitlerjugend (HJ) and Deutsches Jungvolk (DJ) during the 1930s and 1940s.
The instrument is manufactured from dark wood and features metal fittings at both ends. It has the characteristic simple construction with finger holes and a transverse embouchure, specifically designed for use in a Spielmannszug, where such fifes were traditionally played together with marching drums.
Particularly nice is the complete period black leather carrying case, which is specifically shaped for the instrument. The case retains its original leather carrying straps, metal rivets and press-stud fastening, together with the separate small leather protective cover attached by its original strap. The leather shows attractive age and honest traces of use but remains in good condition.
No manufacturer, RZM or organisational markings are visible on either the instrument or the leather case.
A very decorative and increasingly difficult-to-find period musical instrument, especially desirable with its complete matching leather carrying equipment.
