1930s–1940s Motorcycle / Protective Goggles – Kradmelder Style

A very interesting pair of period motorcycle/protective goggles, most likely dating from the 1930s–1940s.
The goggles feature distinctive yellow/amber tinted lenses, large brown wind and dust protectors, a wide elasticated headband and an adjustable central nose bridge. Particularly interesting are the reddish-brown hard moulded components, which appear to be made from an early Bakelite-type synthetic material.
A partially visible manufacturer's trademark is moulded into the central bridge. Unfortunately, the marking is difficult to read and the exact manufacturer has not yet been positively identified.
The construction is typical of high-quality period goggles intended for use on motorcycles and other open vehicles, providing protection against wind, dust and debris. The yellow lenses were particularly useful for improving contrast under poor light and weather conditions.
During the Second World War, German motorcycle personnel (Kradfahrer/Kradmelder) used various types of protective goggles. Besides officially issued models, commercially available motorcycle goggles could also be privately purchased and worn. The construction of this example makes private-purchase use by motorcycle or other motorized personnel entirely possible.
A particularly attractive and unusual pair of early motorcycle goggles with a great period appearance and an interesting construction.
Period: circa 1930s–1940s
Material: Bakelite-type synthetic material, metal, textile and protective side pieces
Lenses: Yellow/amber tinted
Application: Motorcycle / open-vehicle protective goggles
Possible use: Private-purchase Kradmelder/Kradfahrer goggles
A very interesting example which deserves further research, particularly concerning the unusual moulded manufacturer's trademark.
