German Jamaica Rum Verschnitt Pocket Bottle – Arthur Mentschel, Berlin-Zehlendorf

€ 15,00
An attractive period German 0.2-litre pocket bottle of “Jamaica Rum Verschnitt”, retailed by Arthur Mentschel, Weine u. Spirituosen, Berlin-Zehlendorf.
The original blue paper label remains nicely preserved and is marked “Jamaica Rum Verschnitt – 40 Vol.% – Deutsches Erzeugnis”. The lower part carries the retailer’s name and location.
The glass bottle has the typical flat, rounded shape of a small pocket or travel bottle and retains its original-style ribbed aluminium screw cap. The base is embossed with a glass manufacturer’s mark together with “200”, indicating the 200 ml capacity.
“Jamaica Rum Verschnitt” was a German rum blend, traditionally produced using Jamaica rum blended with other spirit and water. Such rum blends were already widely available in Germany before the Second World War.
Based on the overall appearance, bottle construction, label design and typography, this example appears consistent with 1930s–1940s production.
A charming and increasingly difficult-to-find piece of period German everyday history, particularly appealing with the original Arthur Mentschel Berlin-Zehlendorf label still intact.
