Luftwaffe Observer Badge by P. Meybauer, Berlin – Early Tombak/Buntmetall
Category:
€ 1.250,00
A very attractive early Luftwaffe Beobachterabzeichen (Observer’s Badge) manufactured by the well-known firm P. Meybauer, Berlin.
This is the desirable early Tombak/Buntmetall construction, consisting of a separately applied dark-finished eagle mounted to a silvered wreath by two rivets. The reverse of the eagle is clearly maker marked “P. MEYBAUER BERLIN.”
The badge remains in very nice condition, retaining a particularly attractive amount of its original finish. The wreath still shows extensive silvering with a pleasing, naturally aged patina, while the eagle retains much of its characteristic dark finish. The raised areas show only moderate wear, giving the badge an excellent overall appearance while retaining strong and crisp details.
The reverse is fitted with the typical Meybauer hardware consisting of a long round pin, barrel hinge and wire catch. Both attachment rivets remain intact and undisturbed. An old hand-scratched marking is present on the reverse of the wreath.
The badge has a substantial weight of approximately 46 grams, fully in keeping with the heavy early Tombak/Buntmetall construction.
A particularly attractive and well-preserved example of an early P. Meybauer Luftwaffe Observer Badge, displaying excellent contrast between the dark eagle and silvered wreath and considerably more original finish than is often encountered.
