Early Luftwaffe Hauptgefreiter Four-Pocket Tunic – LBA 35
Category:
€ 1.500,00
A very attractive and exceptionally early Luftwaffe four-pocket service tunic, clearly LBA 35 marked and dating from the formative period of the Luftwaffe.
The tunic is manufactured from high-quality grey wool and features the characteristic early construction with four pleated patch pockets and large turned-back sleeve cuffs. Particularly striking is the yellow Waffenfarbe cord around the collar, a distinctive feature associated with these early Luftwaffe uniforms. Matching yellow piping is also present on the shoulder straps.
The collar carries a beautiful matching pair of yellow flight-branch collar tabs, each fitted with four aluminium gulls, denoting the rank of Hauptgefreiter in this early period. An especially interesting detail is the unusual method by which the individual gulls have been additionally secured with period thread. This can be clearly seen upon close inspection and gives the insignia considerable character.
The tunic retains its machine-embroidered Luftwaffe breast eagle, neatly applied above the right breast pocket. The interior is fully lined and retains several period issue, size and depot markings, including the important LBA 35 acceptance marking.
Overall the tunic remains in very nice, lightly worn condition, with the wool, bright yellow Waffenfarbe and insignia particularly well preserved. The combination of its 1935 LBA marking, early four-pocket construction, large cuffs, yellow collar cord and Hauptgefreiter insignia makes this a very appealing example from the earliest years of the Luftwaffe.
