Rare German Luftwaffe Sailing Club (Segelsportverein der Luftwaffe) Burgee
An exceptionally rare original German Luftwaffe Sailing Club (Segelsportverein der Luftwaffe) burgee, dating from the Second World War period.
Manufactured in blue cotton, the burgee features the distinctive Combined Pilot and Observer Badge (Gemeinsames Flugzeugführer- und Beobachterabzeichen) printed to the obverse. It retains its original white canvas hoist sleeve complete with the original braided halyard. The burgee measures approximately 50.5 cm in length and 22 cm in height.
This distinctive design is widely attributed to the Segelsportverein der Luftwaffe, the Luftwaffe's official sailing association. The identical blue burgee is depicted on the extremely rare membership badge issued to members of the club and is also documented in period photographs being flown aboard Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring's yacht Carin II (Last picture)
Original examples of the actual burgee are virtually never encountered on today's collectors market, making this an exceptionally desirable and scarce piece of Luftwaffe memorabilia.
The burgee remains in very good condition, displaying only light signs of age and use. The colours remain vibrant, the printed insignia is well preserved, and the original construction is completely intact, resulting in a highly attractive display piece.
An outstanding and extremely rare original Luftwaffe sailing association burgee, representing one of the most elusive areas of German aviation memorabilia and a superb addition to any advanced Third Reich, Luftwaffe or maritime collection.
