“Vlamingen op!” Waffen-SS Recruitment Brochure – Flanders, ca. 1941–1942
Original WWII Flemish Waffen-SS propaganda and recruitment brochure titled “Vlamingen op!” (“Flemings, Rise Up!”). Issued by the Ergänzungsamt der Waffen-SS – Ergänzungsstelle Flandern in Antwerp, this publication was aimed at recruiting Flemish volunteers for the SS-Freiwilligen-Legion Flandern.
The booklet features powerful propaganda illustrations by SS-P.K. Frans van Immerseel, including a front cover showing a medieval Flemish knight and a Waffen-SS soldier symbolizing the “new crusade against Bolshevism.” Inside are numerous photos and articles promoting the Flemish Legion, speeches by René Lagrou, anti-Bolshevik propaganda, and a quotation from Adolf Hitler.
At the back, the original registration form for SS enlistment in Flanders is still present and unused — making this a particularly complete and desirable example.
