Flemish volunteer SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 10 ‘Westland’ Bevo Cufftitle
In June 1940, on the orders of Reichsfuhrer of the SS Heinrich Himmler, the Waffen SS recruited troops from Flanders (between 18 and 25 years of age). The men are promised to do “police work” in Flanders. The regiment is formed within a few weeks, under the name SS-Regiment “Westland“. In December the regiment was attached to the 5th SS Division “Wiking” (later 5th SS Panzer Division “Wiking”). Thus, the promise to serve only in Flanders was broken and they were sent off to Russia.
